Georgiana Hays Invitational [May 2012 Archive]
The first-ever Hays Invitational took place at Prospect High School on May 19, 2012. Congratulations to Mountain View's Mia Guthart, Samir Kishore, Daniel Leybzon, and Vikram Sivaraja, and to Los Gatos's Chris Weeton and Andrea Kibel!
ResultsThe cumulative results packets for the Hays Invitational are available below. Note that a team's opponent for each round is not listed—the only way to find the opponent is to use the judge name.
Notes: In Public Forum and Novice Parliamentary, Milpitas teams did end up hitting each other multiple times. In addition, "Milpitas Swing" is made up of two varsity Milpitas judges who evened out the bracket to get everyone NFL points instead of byes. They did not receive an award, even though they were ranked as the second and third speakers (which threw Thomas Belesiu off during the awards ceremony). Finally, we're switching back from TRPC to PlusTab 2 next October, and recommend that everyone hosting a tournament does the same.

However, both PoFo and Parli participants earned NFL points. In Parli Prep, laptops/internet access were allowed (to keep everyone on an even keel); laptops were not permitted during rounds, except for judges. Points of Order were permitted in the last speeches. Public Forum: We used the April resolution, dealing with vaccinations. Students earned NFL points from this tournament, but no laptops may be used in-round. The last round was a hidden-elimination round: everyone participates, but a select few rooms will host the finals rounds (three-judge panels will decide in key divisions). Top speakers (based on speaker points) and overall undefeated teams (or highest record plus H/L speaker points), as well as runner-ups in these categories, will receive awards. During online registration, schools will be required to register their judges by name. Each debate team of two students will be required to have one corresponding judge, as several rounds will have panels of judges.
