Georgiana Hays Invitational
The second annual Hays Invitational took place at Prospect High School on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Georgiana Hays was a Prospect High School teacher and forensics coach who led Prospect's program to nationals twice. At a tournament hosting some of the best debaters in the nation, it is fitting that her name should adorn the trophy.
For details on this tournament, please read the below or visit the Joy of Tournaments website, which will host registration and the official invite. All CFL and GGSA schools will receive invitations, but any school is welcome to participate.
A huge thank you to all coaches, participants, judges, and volunteers!

Key Rules1. Parliamentary will loosely follow CHSSA rules. Points of information are welcome (at speaker's discretion) in all constructive speeches except during the first and last minute of each speech; points of order are permitted during rebuttals (time must be stopped). The speaking times are 7PM-7LO-7MG-7MO-5LO-5PM. Debaters will strike from a list of three resolutions and prepare at their rooms. The negation strikes first. Laptops (and coaches) may be used during prep, but not in-round.

The tournament will be double-flighted unless there are not enough debaters to merit doing so. In that case, we will use a single-flight schedule. 5. Finals rounds will be hidden-elimination; most rooms will have a round as usual, but one room in each division will pit the top two teams against each other in front of a panel of judges. 6. During online registration, schools will be required to register their judges by name. Each debate team of two students will be required to have one corresponding judge, as several rounds will have panels of judges. 7. The top two teams and speakers in each division receive awards. All participants earn NFL points. FeesRegistration: $30/team
Drop Fee: $20 extra/team (total $50) Late Reg. Fee: $20 extra/team (total $50) Missing Judge Fee: $70 extra/team (total $100, judge will be hired) Wi-Fi Access on premises: $0 1 judge REQUIRED per debate team. When registering judges, add a short paradigm or a blurb regarding judging experience. Judge paradigms will be posted here on April 26th. Registration is due by Friday, April 19th at 4:30 PM; drop fees, late fees, and judge fees will be assessed after Monday, April 22 at 12:00 PM. All students will compete in the Open division; there will be no novice competition this year. Lunch will not be sold at Prospect this year. However, there are many fast food joints and restaurants nearby. The extended lunch time should permit debaters to dine. Judges will still be provided with food. |
