Prospect Debate Invitational Tournament
The Prospect Debate Invitational Tournament occurred at Prospect High School on October 29, 2011. Congratulations to all participants, and thank you to coaches, judges, and volunteers for your assistance in making this event possible! We're looking forward to seeing you all again this spring—in a tournament expecting double the turnout. Photos will be posted when possible.
ResultsThe Prospect Debate Invitational is over! After thirteen grueling hours of debate, the winners have been announced. Speaker awards have been distributed, and ribbons for undefeated debate teams have been sent to coaches. Congratulations to all participants!
The main event, Open Parliamentary Debate, was taken by Lynbrook's Anjana Rao and Robert Ying, who went 5-0, winning the hidden elimination round on a Milpitas Michael Grillo and Patrick O'Brien forfeit. Open Public Forum winners: Milpitas Miranda Le and Johnathan Ngo, beating Champion School's Sameer Khanna and Niloufar Khanna.Novice Parliamentary winners: Nandita Iyer and Matt Wang from Lynbrook edged Washington's Afreen Chaus and Angela Chung on overall speaker points in this small field of six teams. Novice Public Forum winners: Foothill's Jeffrey Huai and Richard Lee won with a 4-1 record, defeating Mountain View's Ashwin Vaidyanathan and Ben Gardner-Gill in the finals. VolunteersOur volunteers did a spectacular job at the invitational! Even though the first round started 70 minutes after scheduled, we were back on track by lunch. Feverish work during lunch sales and efficient cleanup helped our tournament run without many hitches. Credit to Thomas Belesiu for excellent tabbing work, and Randy Melton for great organization and coordination through trying technical difficulties. Volunteers deserve recognition:

It's Back!That's right! This spring, most likely on May 19, Prospect High School will be hosting the second-ever Prospect Debate Invitational tournament! Offering competition in Open Parliamentary, JV Parli, Open Public Forum, and JV PoFo, and possibly Congressional Debate, we will be operating at our maximum capacity of 250 debaters. More details will follow, and invitations will be sent out to all CFL-affiliated schools in San Jose, Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Mountain View, Los Gatos, Los Altos, Palo Alto, and Saratoga, although anyone may register and participate. Top speakers (based on speaker points) and overall undefeated teams (or highest record plus H/L speaker points), as well as runner-ups in these categories, will receive awards. Parli Times: 7PM-7LO-7MG-7MO-5LO-5PM PoFo Times: 4-4-3-4-4-3-2-2-3-1-1 Rounds 3, 4, and 5 will be power matched H/H and L/L to ensure that a maximum of one team will go undefeated. In Parli Prep, laptops will be allowed (to keep everyone on an even keel); laptops will also not be permitted during rounds. However, free wi-fi will be available on the premises. During online registration, schools will be required to register their judges by name. Each debate team of two students will be required to have one corresponding judge, as several rounds will have panels of judges.
