Prospect Speech and Debate Rehearsals

Prospect Speech and Debate rehearsals take place in Mr. Melton's English classroom, Room 8 in the 'A' wing. Early on in the year, speakers and debaters are introduced to the different styles of speech and debate, and get a basic understanding of each event. As the year progresses, students gain experience and settle into a routine; speakers work on presentation and perfection, and the debate team begins to delve into the complexities of debates, such as topicalities, kritiks, and more advanced debate theory. During a typical speech rehearsal, students work on writing, memorizing, and presenting their speeches, which can be about any topic under the sun. Our adviser, Mr. Melton works with each speaker's strengths and flaws to help them improve. Debate rehearsals involve Parliamentary and Lincoln-Douglas debaters being divided into teams and then participating in practice rounds. Our debate coach, Julie Herman, teaches debaters, judges rounds, and then provides feedback to each debater for improvement.
Check the PHS video bulletin for the exact rehearsal time. Debate rehearsals for the 2013-2014 season have not yet been scheduled.
